Sylvia (Hovanesian) Chakarian, 80, of Bethlehem, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. She was the wife of the late Agnone “Chuck” Chakarian, who passed away in 1978.
Born in the Bronx, NY, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Magarian) Hovanesian. She graduated from Hunter College in 1958, and was a teacher in New York City and later in Bethlehem. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, where she was also a deacon. A very caring mother with a deep faith, Sylvia adored her two sons, they were her pride and joy. She also adored her brother, two grandchildren, relatives and all her friends. It always seemed she put other peoples needs and hurts before her own.
Survivors: Sons Diran “Chico” Chakarian of Quakertown, Robert “Chico” Chakarian and his wife Mary of San Diego, CA; brother Peter Hovanesian of Houston, TX; grandchildren Carsen and CJ Chakarian.
Services: 11 AM Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 2344 Center St, Bethlehem, 18017. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday evening in the Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St, Bethlehem, and also on Thursday morning beginning at 10 AM at church.
